Although the school year has just officially ended, we know you have questions about what next school year might look like. While we await guidance from the state regarding its recommendation to school districts, we want you to know we are planning for three different scenarios:

  • School-based Learning (all students physically attending school)
  • Remote Learning (all students participating in virtual learning)
  • Blended Learning (some students physically attending school while other students learn remotely) One example would be for one-half the students to report to school on Monday-Wednesday-Friday and learn remotely on Tuesday and Thursday.  The next week those students would physically attend school on Tuesday and Thursday and learn remotely on Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

We believe the first and best option is to have all students physically attending school each day if at all possible.  There will be strict health and safety protocols in place for any of the three scenarios.

Please see the 2020-2021 Framework for Planning (also in Spanish), also available online at, to understand some of the considerations that will guide the FSSD Leadership Team in our planning over the summer.

The FSSD leadership Team will use time at its summer retreat June 10-12 to develop detailed action plans to go along with each of the three possible scenarios. Please know that every decision we make will have your student’s safety and security at heart in addition to achieving our goal of providing rich, teacher-directed learning within the state and local health and safety guidelines. As soon as we develop tentative protocols and expectations, we will share these and provide input opportunities for our FSSD families.
